SoS 1:2 says “Oh, that he would kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is more delightful than wine (Holman Christian Standard).”

Watchman Nee, in his book, The Song of Songs , delves into the intricate pleasures of this divine kiss. He writes that this kiss in SoS is different than the one in Luke 15:20. “That kiss was a sign of forgiveness…(11)”, he writes. Of course, Nee is talking about the prodigal son and how his father saw him coming from a distance and met him along the way and hugged and kissed him. Writing still about the kiss in Luke 15:20, Nee writes, “everyone who belongs to the Lord has received that kiss already (11).”

God desires close, intimate contact with His creation.

We are the apple of His eye.

He wants to get right up in your personal space and memorize the color of your eyes, every inch of your face; He wants to gaze upon you and revive you with His goblet of wine (SoS 2:5).

God is calling us to His House of Wine–the place of His heavenly delights.

“Revive me with your goblet of wine, refresh me again with your sweet promises (SoS 2:5 Passion) the Shulamite says. God wants to kiss you with revelation from Heaven and revive your spirit and refresh you with His Heavenly wonders. God desires a bride who will be about His business. He wants a bride like Martha who couldn’t tear herself away from His feet and worshiping Him (Luke 10:38-42). For too long the church has operated in the mindset of Martha. The church has labored for the Lord for too long. The Lord says, “calm down; sit and be still before me. Just love me.” Serving God is a good thing! But serving God out of a heart of striving is not what God is looking for. You don’t impress Him with all the work you’ve completed, all the churches you’ve planted, or the souls you’ve led to Him. He loves it all, but His intention for you is to take a time out and rest in Him. Allow yourself to be kissed by the Uncreated and be revived and refreshed.

Take a Timeout and Consider the Goodness of the Lord

Think of all the kindness and goodness that is out and about in the world at large. Are you not convinced that there is any? Would you be one that says, “There is nothing good. I don’t have to look for good because Heaven is my home and only have to think of Heaven.” If that’s you….you probably have a religious spirit. SHED THAT BABY OFF AND GET FREEEEEEEEEE!!!

There is ONLY good from God. Oh, sure, there is some crazy stuff going on out there in the world, especially in the political arena right now. BUT God is ALWAYS good and He’s ALWAYS at work on something good. And here’s a little secret: God is not only concerned with how many souls you led to Jesus today or how much you’ve proselytized for your politician of choice.

God wants to look you in the eyes, grab and smoosh your face, and plant a big ol’ wet one on you! He wants to revive you with his goblet of wine, romance you, and then reveal His happy heart to you!

There is only good that will come our way because God is only good.

I’m not suggesting that trial, error, or terrible news won’t come your way. I’m  just saying that with the bad is always good from God. The Bible is clear when it says in Romans 8:28, “Now we know that for those who love God all things are working together for good–for those, I mean, whom with deliberate purpose He has called (Weymouth New Testament).”

No matter what has happened or is happening to you, God is working for your good. He is kissing you with his splendor and He’s going to work out all that bad for something good! God has deliberately purposed for you to do great things for Him. It’s easy to get frustrated and want to quit, but always remember His kiss of revelation, His kiss of love for you. Remember that He is working out all things for your good!

I’m dealing with this even as I type. I’m basically preaching to myself here. There’s a thing we are trying to do…it’s huge…and it seems like there are so many obstacles in our way. We wanted a nice, smooth, easy transition. It’ll be easy to get frustrated and quit, but we won’t quit. We are resting in the fact that we are utterly convinced God is going to work out all things for our good.

We don’t have it all figured out. I rely on my wife and our friends a lot for support. I have my negative moments throughout the day, but I constantly come back to the kiss of God and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is on my side and He is working out all things for my good because I love Him!

Go and rest in the Lord. Rest in His splendor and allow yourself to be kissed by your eternal lover. Revelation of the Lord and of Love is going to wash over you. You are moving from being one who loves God to one who is God’s lover. It’s going to be exciting and wild and scary, but hold tight because it’s ALWAYS good.
